European
Union energy labels have recently been changed to make life easier for
consumers and promote smart choices. Now the scale starts from A (most
efficient) to G (least efficient), thus eliminating the difficult scales placed
between class A and B (A+, A++ and A+++).
According
to DECO, this change clarifies the range of
choices for the consumer, fine-tunes the levels of efficiency required for an
appliance to be considered in classes A to G, as well as posing challenges for
manufacturers.
As
an example, "according to the new energy label, by choosing an energy
class A refrigerator, instead of a class F one, you can save 190 kWh/year,
which is equivalent to 41 euros per year, or 58 kg of CO2 per year or to
planting 6 trees".
The
new energy label can be found on different household appliances and
refrigeration appliances (fridges, freezers, combined refrigerator and wine
storage appliances), washing machines and combined washing and drying machines,
dishwashers, electronic displays (televisions, monitors and digital signage
screens), commercial equipment (direct-sales refrigeration or vending machines,
drinks coolers and freezers for ice cream) and light sources.
Also
according to DECO, two new features have been introduced to the energy label:
the QR Code and EPREL, the European Database for Product Registration for
Energy Labelling. From now on, through the QR Code, consumers will be able to
check the EPREL online database, accessing the energy label and product information
sheet with other relevant information for a smart decision. With the LABEL2020
tool, it is also possible to calculate energy consumption over several years,
analyse and save several products, for later comparison of energy labels and an
informed decision at the time of purchase.
All
in all, DECO and ADENE want to shed light on the new energy label, as it is a
useful tool to inform customers that they can make more sustainable purchases,
allowing them to reduce their energy bills. If you have any question, please
get in touch.
