The annual City Costs Barometer from Post Office Travel Money compares the cost of short breaks in cities across Europe for UK holiday.
The results ranked Lisbon as the best-value European city, with prices up only 2 percent when compared to last year, a much smaller increase when compared to other cities. Lisbon came above Vilnius in Lithuania and also outperformed all Eastern European cities.
Porto also did well in the rankings, being placed in 6th position.
According to the Post Office: “The overall cost of a city break was calculated based on 12 typical items for such a trip. These included a range of drinks, an evening meal for two with a bottle house wine, two nights’ three-star weekend accommodation, sightseeing and city transport.”
The total cost for a trip to Lisbon was calculated as being at £224.76, while a trip to Porto was calculated as costing £325.30.
Lisbon also came out as the cheapest city for accommodation (£121 for two nights in three-star accommodation) and eating out (with a cost of £39.01 for a three-course meal for two with a bottle of house wine).

Portugal is among the EU countries with the lowest wages in Europe so nothing else would be expected! Look and compare GDP per capita or even the PPP. Anyway, Lisbon may be one of the cheapest European cities for expats and rich tourists, not for the locals!
