Throughout the night to “ensure a good farewell to 2023 and a better entry into 2024”, reads a statement sent to the Lusa agency.
The exception is the Violet Line (E) to the airport, which will stop operating at 01:00.
The reinforcement of Porto Metro operations will begin at 8pm on Sunday and from 6am on the first day of the new year.
In terms of frequency, on the Blue line (A), between 9:00pm and 3:00am, departures will take place every 10 minutes, in both directions, while on the Red line (B) and Green line (C), between 9:00pm and 3:00am, passages will be available every 30 minutes.
On the Yellow line (D), a trip is guaranteed every 10 minutes, between 8:00pm and 10:00 pm, and approximately every seven minutes, between 11:00pm and 3:00am.
The Orange line (F) has trips scheduled every 20 minutes from 9:00pm until 3:00am.
The Sociedade de Transportes Coletivos do Porto (STCP), described that “the usual night service, 37 lines, will be joined by the advance of the Rede de Madrugada, with the exception of line 9M, with quadruple more operation than usual, offering on average, trips every 15 minutes”.
The company guarantees that vehicles with greater capacity will be made available on the main axes of the STCP network “for a quick connection to the centers of the six municipalities served by the operator”.
For a “faster and more direct” connection between the city centers of Porto and Gondomar, line 800 (Bolhão-Gondomar) will be reinforced with more buses and will extend services until late in the morning.
With the public who might want to attend concerts scheduled for the Palácio de Cristal Gardens in mind, STCP will divert the 1M line (Av. Aliados-Matosinhos, Praia) in Massarelos, via Rua da Restauração, to Cordoaria.
On Monday, the network will operate according to the usual schedules for Sundays and holidays.
STCP also decided to group finishing stops in downtown Porto form 9pm on Sunday, with four locations established: Cordoaria – Rua Ferreira da Silva, Bolhão – Rua do Bolhão, Mercado do Bolhão – Rua Sá da Bandeira and Batalha – Rua Alexandre Herculano.
Metro and STCP recommend an advance purchase of travel tickets.
The New Year’s Eve celebrations in the city of Porto will be headlined by Richie Campbell, Carolina Deslandes and Jimmy P.
The program will be divided into two stages: Avenida dos Aliados and Praça do Rossio dos Jardins do Palácio de Cristal.
The “monumental fireworks show” will be launched this year from Praça da República, where the countdown will feature comedian Francisco Menezes as a special guest.
Entry is free in all the locations.
On the first day of the year, the city maintains the tradition with the Portuguese Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa, which will perform from 4:00pm, at the New Year’s Concert, in Avenida dos Aliados.
