After a first period of classes in which strikes by teachers and school staff once again marked the daily lives of many schools, the second period of the school year begins with no strikes in sight.
Three months before the legislative elections, the various education unions have been listening to political parties to find out the electoral programs of the different candidates.
Several political parties have already presented proposals to recover service time in parliament, as was the case with Bloco de Esquerda, PCP, Livre or PSD, and this is now a topic for electoral programs.
Until then, difficulties will continue in finding teachers to fill the timetables that remain empty, especially in schools in the Lisbon and Algarve areas.
High rental prices in these two areas prevent many teachers from accepting vacancies, a situation that led the Government to create extraordinary income support.
During this year, teachers located more than 70 kilometers from home, in the Algarve, Lisbon and Tagus Valley regions, can benefit from maximum support of up to 200 euros per month.
