According to a press release sent to The Portugal News, “athletes from 55 nationalities are registered, in addition to 360 young people participating in the ‘Children’s Race’.”

The half marathon is organised by “Montepio Associação Mutualista, which will take place this weekend, the 3 and 4 February.” Those interested in participating may still sign up via www.meiamaratonadecascais.pt.

The registrations for the Children’s Race are already closed, for those born between 2011 and 2019, the race will take place on Saturday 3 February at 4 pm in Cascais Bay “with routes ranging between 300 and 1,000 metres.” The race is raising funds for charity as “the amount raised through registrations will be donated in full to the Nursery of Casa da Sopa Mãe Maria Nazaré, in São Domingos de Rana.”

On 4 February, “the focus will be on the half marathon (21.1 km), the 10 km and 5 km, with the three races open to participants aged 18 and over. At 21.1 km and 10 km, the route involves passing through the centre of the town of Cascais and Estrada do Guincho, with a privileged view of the Atlantic Ocean. In the 5 km of Cascais, participants complete the distance on the streets of the town.”

“Organised by HMS Sports, in partnership with the Centro de Cultura e Desporto do Pessoal do Município de Cascais and the Câmara Municipal de Cascais, the Montepio Half Marathon of Cascais, powered by Montepio Associação Mutualista, has the support of Lidl, Mitsubishi, Vitalis, Holmes Place, Specialized, Doublet, Margres, Pro Runners, TRIATL3TA, OPracticante.pt and Sociedade Ponto Verde.”, as mentioned on the press release.


Other experiences

On 3 and 4 February, the 'Specialized Experience' “will provide two unique experiences for event participants.” On the first day, “cycling lovers will be able to test the Tero X, a state-of-the-art electric bicycle, in the village of Cascais.”

The meeting point will be Cascais Bay, next to Hotel Baía, and these are the available times:

  • Group 1: 9 am
  • Group 2: 10:30 am
  • Group 3: 12:00 pm
  • Group 4: 3 pm

On the second day, the “Specialized Bike Park will be available - a bicycle cloakroom open between 8 am and 1 pm, also next to Hotel Baía. It is a space reserved for those registered who wish to travel by bicycle to the race site, limited to available spaces and requiring the official dorsal pad at the time of delivery and collection of the bicycle.”
