“The flames are consuming the roof area of the building, affecting the entire area of the factory, from production to administrative services, having already destroyed part of the factory”, the second sub-regional commander of Lezíria do Tejo told the Lusa agency.
The factory, belonging to Sociedade Panificadora Costa & Ferreira, is located in the town of Alto da Serra, in the municipality of Rio Maior, in the district of Santarém, and has 240 workers, of which 94 were working and “had to be removed”, stated Rodrigo Bertelo.
Also, according to the second commander, “three workers were treated on site for smoke inhalation”, with no further injuries reported.
The alert was given at 1:10 pm and, by 2:30 pm, there were 18 vehicles and 45 operational personnel from the corporations of Rio Maior, Caldas da Rainha, Alcoentre, Benedita, Óbidos, Cartaxo, Alcanede and Voluntários de Santarém.
There were also members of the GNR and the Rio Maior Chamber at the scene.
