According to data from Jetcost's flight and hotel search engine, cited by TNEWS, searches for accommodation in Portugal for July 2024 increased by 10% compared to July 2023, shares Postal.
As for preferences, it seems that the Portuguese have a strong desire for sun and beach, highlighting these destinations in 76% of their searches, compared to 24% who prefer inland destinations. Among the 35 most searched cities for July 2024, the Algarve has seven cities on this list, with one city in the Algarve being the most searched for in national terms.
Jetcost.pt regularly analyses searches carried out on its website, thus ensuring more reliable data, based on real searches and not on surveys. The data reveals that, in addition to the Algarve, Centro, Norte, and Lisbon, other regions such as Alentejo, Madeira, and the Azores were also highly sought after for accommodation during the period from 1 to 31 July.
“It is clear that the Portuguese really want to visit other cities, hence the 10% increase in searches compared to the same period last year. It seems that they continue to want destinations with sand, sun, and sea, with 76% of travelers looking for beach destinations rather than inland regions,” said Ignazio Ciarmoli, Marketing Director at Jetcost, quoted by TNEWS.
