The source from the Arcos de Valdevez Volunteer Fire Department, in the district of Viana do Castelo, said at 9.15am that “the wind is making fire control work difficult, and resources are planned to be reinforced at the site”.
The same source added that “at this moment, the flames are consuming bush and there are no houses at risk”.
During the early hours of the morning, “the fire reached a length of eight kilometres”.
The fire started at 8:21 pm on Tuesday.
In addition to the 146 operational personnel and seven aerial assets, 41 vehicles were mobilized to combat the fire, according to the official page of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) on the Internet.
