The new website was presented in the capital, at the headquarters of Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa (TML), the company that manages, coordinates and plans transport in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, with Carris Metropolitana as the sole and exclusive brand for intercity buses.

For Rui Lopo, director of TML, the redesign of the website “with new features” involves the company’s strategy of being “more transparent in terms of the public service provided”, giving more information to people, in addition to the monitoring that is carried out “to service providers who are in the field operating the Carris Metropolitana brand”.

According to the executive, through the page there is now the possibility of publicising the passengers transported or “the services that are performed versus those that are not performed every day”, among other features.

The site, he indicated, is used by approximately 40,000 people per day, hence the need to “continue updating the tools, because nowadays they are inseparable from the transport service”. The cell phone application, for example, already has already been installed 60,000 times.

“There are four operators. More than 1,700 buses on the street, three thousand kilometres travelled in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, 21 thousand services and around 70 thousand people transported per day in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area”, said Rui Lopo, characterising the complexity of the operation.

Service completion levels are at 98%, that is, “98% of planned services are carried out”, he indicated, considering that there are specific things to correct, but that the service is “quite good and will continue to improve”.

This year, so far, and according to Rui Lopo, there has been an increase in demand of 26% across the entire metropolitan area, with Area 4 (Alcochete, Moita, Montijo, Palmela and Setúbal) recording an increase of 30%.

On the new website, as with the mobile app, favourite lines can be customised to access the most relevant information. Notices and new search filters can also be found, in addition to real-time operation data in municipalities in the metropolitan region.

The website also provides, in a first phase, the number of people transported in real time, as well as the accumulated number for the day, month and year, in addition to the percentage of the operation scheduled for the day that is being carried out.

There is also the possibility of viewing the website in English and the design is adapted for cell phones.
