“At this moment alone [around 10:30 am] we have 24 open incidents due to flooding,” said the source, without being able to specify how many more are open or have already been resolved.
Meanwhile, the National Road (EN) 103 was closed today due to bad weather in the area of Argela, municipality of Caminha.
According to the Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of Alto Minho, the road was cut off due to flooding, after a period of very intense rain at 8am.
An ambulance transporting non-urgent patients was “dragged by the water” and had to be removed by the Caminha firefighters, said a source from the corporation.
The same source explained that only the driver was traveling in the vehicle and was not injured.
The Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of Alto Minho indicated, at 10 am, that it had recorded around 40 to 45 floods throughout the district of Viana do Castelo due to today's bad weather.
Viana do Castelo, Porto and Braga were placed under orange warning today between 06:00 and 09:00 today due to heavy precipitation and wind gusts that can reach 100 kilometres per hour (km/h) in high areas.
The districts of Vila Real, Bragança, Viseu, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Santarém and Évora will remain under yellow warning due to precipitation until 6:00 pm.
The coastal districts of Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon, Setúbal, Beja and Faro are under a yellow warning until Thursday at 6pm due to sea unrest, in addition to the yellow warning for precipitation until Wednesday.
