In the Vote of Protest, to be sent to the Assembly of the Republic, the Ílhavo Council “rejects the Government's decision to maintain tolls on this specific section, considering that such a measure harms the economic development of the region and worsens social and economic inequalities”.

The Ílhavo municipality “appeals to the Government and the Assembly of the Republic to take immediate measures” to ensure that toll exemption is applied to the entirety of motorway 25.

In the considerations of the Protest Vote, the Ílhavo Council argues that the A25 is vital for the movement of the Port of Aveiro, which is mostly located in the municipality.

“It is one of the country’s main logistics and export hubs, and thousands of workers and hundreds of companies travel along this route every day to carry out their activities”.

“Maintaining the toll imposes a significant additional cost for both workers and companies in the region”.

“The toll charge on BR-25 has represented an unnecessary and unfair financial burden for the populations that depend on this road for their daily lives.

“Despite repeated promises to eliminate toll charges, the Government has not taken concrete measures to exempt tolls on this specific section of the A25, continuing to penalise citizens who do not have viable transport alternatives, and worsening inequality of access to essential infrastructures”.
