“The President of the Republic congratulates Portugal on its performance at the European Indoor Championships, held in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, where our athletes won four medals, one silver and three bronze, also achieving the highest score ever and obtaining ninth place among all the participating teams”, reads the Presidency website.

In the same note, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa “congratulates athletes, coaches, technical teams and the Federation for achieving these results, a sign of the high level of national athletics and which makes all Portuguese people very proud”.

Portugal had its best ever participation in the European indoor athletics championships, in Apeldoorn, in the Netherlands, where it surpassed the three medals from Valencia 1998, Torun 2021 and Istanbul 2023.

The four medals won by the second largest delegation of all time contributed to this outcome, including a silver medal in the 1,500 metres by Salomé Afonso, who repeated her rise to the podium in the 3,000 meters, to receive a bronze, as did Isaac Nader, in the 1,500 metres, and Auriol Dongmo, in the shot put.
