Diesel prices are expected to fall by 3.5 cents per litre from Monday, while petrol prices are expected to fall by 4 cents, a market source told ECO.
The price of a litre of regular 95 petrol was, on average, €1.736 this Thursday, according to the most recent data made available by the General Directorate of Energy and Geology. Therefore, the price of a litre of this fuel should fall to around €1.696 on Monday. You have to go back to October 2023 to find a sharper drop.
In the case of simple diesel, the average price practiced this Thursday was €1.637 euros per litre, so the expected drop will take this fuel, the most used in Portugal, to the mark of 1.602 euros. It was in November 2023 that the last drop in the price of diesel occurred that exceeded that expected the following week: it fell, at that time, by 4.1 cents.
These values already take into account the discounts applied by petrol stations and the review of temporary tax measures to help mitigate the increase in fuel prices.
Prices may still change to take into account the closing of Brent oil prices this Friday and the behavior of the foreign exchange market. But also because the final prices result from the average of the prices charged by all gas stations. Furthermore, the prices charged to the end consumer may vary depending on the gas station.
