Today’s parliamentary debate will be the last of the current legislature, given that the Assembly of the Republic will be dissolved on Thursday, following the publication of the decree by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

The debate will last approximately one and a half hours and will follow the format of the biweekly debates with the Prime Minister, with an initial intervention by the Government. This will be followed by a question and answer phase with PSD, PS, Chega, IL, BE, PCP, Livre, CDS-PP and PAN, in order of representation, with the Government responding individually to each party.

The debate will serve to prepare the European Council summit, which will take place this Thursday and Friday in Brussels, and occur after, last Tuesday, the Assembly of the Republic rejected a motion of confidence in the Government.

In addition to this preparatory debate for the European Council, the Assembly of the Republic is also expected to discuss “housing and social emergency” today after the PCP scheduled today, potestatively, an urgent debate on this topic.

There will also be a meeting of the leaders' conference in the morning, in which the deputies will decide whether or not to hold the traditional solemn session commemorating 25 April 1974 this year and should schedule a meeting of the Standing Committee.

This will be the last day of parliamentary work for the 16th Legislature, which took office on March 26, 2024, as the Assembly of the Republic will be formally dissolved on Thursday, according to the office of the President of the Assembly of the Republic.
