“Operation Todos os Santos 2022”, the GNR says, has the
“objective of fighting crime and reducing situations that constitute risky
behaviour and road accidents, in addition to guaranteeing support to all road
users”.
According to data provided by the Guarda Nacional
Republicana (GNR), in the period of the operation “Todos os Santos” from 2019
to 2021, there were 3,252 road accidents which resulted in 19 fatalities, 81
serious injuries and 1,030 minor injuries.
During the same period, the districts with the highest
recorded road accidents were Porto, followed by Faro, Aveiro, Braga, Lisbon,
Setúbal and Santarém.
The GNR also recommends the correct use of seat belts and
child restraint systems, as well as not using mobile phones while driving,
adapting speed to the type of road and traffic conditions and not drinking
alcoholic beverages or consuming psychotropic substances.
Friday is not 29 October, but 28 October. Let's hope the GNR can teach the Portuguese how to use indicators. This would be helpful to avoid other drivers being stuck at the entrance to a roundabout and not being able to enter because the cars on it don't indicate that they're turning off the roundabout. Show some consideration to other drivers!
