The recommendation was published today in Diário da República, after the final text of the draft resolution, presented by the
Commission for Economy, Public Works, Planning and Housing, based on a PCP
project, was approved on 26 January.
In the draft resolution, consulted by Lusa agency, it is
recommended that the Government "value Beja Airport within the scope of
the national airport system, taking advantage of all its resources and
potential", so that it is "a promoter of population settlement and
industry in the region".
Among the AR's recommendations is the creation of an
"intermodality of services and transport, combining road, rail, and air
services".
To this end, the draft resolution proposes, in the case of
the railway, the modernisation and electrification of the entire Alentejo Line,
"in the connection between Casa Branca-Ourique/Funcheira, including the
study of the connection to Beja Airport".
In addition, the parliament defended that the construction
of the Main Route 8 (IP8) be ensured, "with two lanes and without tolls
between Sines and the A2 [Southern Motorway]".
Still, on IP8, it is recommended to reclassify this road,
"in a first phase between Santa Margarida do Sado and Beja and in a second
phase between Beja and [Vila Verde de] Ficalho", it can be read.
The Government needs to "enhance the integrated
strategy of aeronautics, cargo, parking, maintenance and passengers, as a way
of promoting the endogenous development of tourism, industry and aeronautical
maintenance and cargo/logistics", is part of the recommendation.
The articulation "between the different levels of
local, regional and national planning the uses to be given to the Airport [of
Beja], taking advantage of all its potentialities and dimensions", is also
recommended.
On January 28, it was announced that Beja and Alverca
entered the list of possible locations for the new Lisbon airport, after
proposals received by the Independent Technical Commission (CTI), which will
analyze them.
At the end of January, the citizen platform Yes to Beja
International Airport was presented in Lisbon, which defends the Alentejo
infrastructure as a "sustainable solution" for the country and as a
"complement to Lisbon Airport".
From Beja you can fly non-stop to Algiers, Paris, Lyon or Marseilles.
Great choice Parliament.
