This is an increase of 7.9% (60 euros), "the largest annual increase in the minimum wage ever", stated António Costa at the signing of the revised income agreement with social partners.
The "Reinforcement of the Medium-Term Agreement to Improve Income, Wages and Competitiveness" has been signed by the Government and social partners, with the exception of the Portuguese Business Confederation (CIP) and CGTP.
António Costa highlighted that the review of the income agreement was "very dedicated work, with little marketing", which allows wages to be increased and companies' competitiveness to improve.

WOW! Minimum wage up 7.9% now €9,840 Euros, rather short of the €44,605.19 Euros base salary of Portugal;s MP's. Its obvious Sr, Costa is living on a parallel planet where the average rent is €100 per month, Diesel €0.47 litre and a dozen eggs €0.18, the inequality in this country is sickening!

Are MP salaries out of touch with the rest of the economy? Absolutely.
But, while the government could raise the minimum wage to €45.000 tomorrow, the majority of the businesses supporting those jobs would go bust and unemployment would rocket. The way to increase wealth is not to bring the wealthy down, but to reduce red tape, incentivise investment and entrepreneurship. By cancelling NHR and Golden Visas with no replacement scheme to attract foreign investment, the government is doing the very opposite.

@Greg, what MPs are paid is totally irrelevant, you wouldn't expect an MP to be paid anywhere near minimum wage. As I said earlier, be careful what you wish for: increasing the minimum wage should depend on productivity growth, otherwise businesses' costs will increase and that'll be passed on to you, the consumer.

Unless the Government starts to wisely manage the country (ahahah!...) and take control of the basics, inflation, goods and production (now basically nil), resources, house market, and access to Portugal by the oligarchs (who don't pay taxes), there will be no future for the Portuguese people! In fact, Portugal, now in the hands of opportunists, is disappearing as a country!
