Diesel, the most widely used fuel in Portugal, is expected to rise by half a cent, while petrol is expected to rise by one cent, according to data published by the Automóvel Clube de Portugal (ACP).
When you fill-up, you should pay €1.659 per litre of regular diesel and €1.773 per litre of regular 95 petrol, taking into account the average prices charged at the pumps on Monday, published by the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology (DGEG).
These values already take into account the discounts applied by gas stations and the review of temporary tax measures to help mitigate the increase in fuel prices.
This week, diesel fell 1.5 cents and gasoline 0.7 cents, a performance below market expectations, which pointed to a drop of 2.5 cents in diesel and 1 cent in gasoline. The Prime Minister reiterated, in this week's biweekly debate, that he would only consider taking measures if fuel prices rose to “unbearable” levels.
So, Brent and WTI are down about 7% for the year but prices in Portugal continue to rise? Three months it was 7c cheaper! Is this a tax/corporate gouge or does it accurately reflect what is being charged to Portuguese gas stations?
