Since 2020, €2.5 million in fines have been paid for failure to clean up land.

According to a report by RTP, between 2018 and 2023, the GNR police registered 26,000 offences, with nearly 5,000 originating from land-burning and fires.
The districts with the highest number of fines were Santarém, Castelo Branco, Braga, Coimbra, and Aveiro. This year, land cleaning inspections begin on May 1st.
