The strike is scheduled for the morning and afternoon periods, on the first day, for the hospitals of Faro, Portimão and Lagos, Basic Emergency Services (Albufeira, Loulé and Vila Real de Santo António), the Southern Medicine and Rehabilitation Centre and the Loulé Convalescence Unit, and, on the second day, for primary health care, the SEP stated in a statement.
"The delays in solutions and the worsening of working conditions continue to be responsible for the increase in requests for dismissal and absenteeism, particularly due to the deterioration of the physical and mental conditions of nurses", lamented the union, considering that there are old problems "to be resolved" and that "other, new ones, have no solution in sight".
Among the problems that the SEP demands to be resolved by the Algarve Local Health Unit are the "hours owed", with the union asking for "payment based on the calculation of twice the hourly value of overtime under the 35-hour regime, that is, 200%", as well as the need to hold "competitions for specialist nurses and nurse managers" that also allow for the departure of professionals who have retired.
The regulation of working hours is also among the demands of the union structure, which classifies as "unacceptable the imposition of the 12-hour working day, illegal, particularly in emergency services and basic emergency services", arguing that it is necessary to respect the professionals' rest periods, when "there is a shortage of 1,000 nurses" in the Algarve ULS.
