The mayor of Constância said that a group of Portuguese investors presented a proposal to purchase the Tupperware factory from the North American company, on December 26th, and that they are awaiting a response.

“I know that a business group presented a proposal to buy everything, facilities and machinery, being able to keep, if not all, at least some of the workers and that it is awaiting a response,” said Sérgio Oliveira.

According to the mayor, “the production license ends today”, having indicated that on Thursday “news about the future will be communicated to the workers by the factory director”.

Without knowing the company's position in relation to these movements, despite Lusa's request for information, the Tupperware factory located in Montalvo will not close its doors, as announced, and will maintain activity for a few more days to fulfil orders, however, the future of 200 workers remains uncertain.

“The meeting scheduled with [the factory] management for Tuesday was postponed until Thursday [January 9] so we will continue working over the next few days, probably until Thursday the 16th, to fulfill orders,” he said today A worker from the company told Lusa, saying that the closure of the factory “has been postponed” but that it “is inevitable”.

According to the same source, the factory “is operating normally and in all sectors (warehouse, order responses and offices) with the intention of fulfilling orders through the existing stocks” in the factory, which will be “plenty”, being just stopped, since last month, the production sector.

The multinational Tupperware factory in Portugal, operating since 1980 in the parish of Montalvo, depended 100% on the North American matrix.

The parent company's insolvency request has direct consequences for the Portuguese unit and could leave the 200 workers who work there, the majority of whom live in Montalvo.
