This cost of 140 million euros for the State, over the
concession period, was conveyed by Pedro Nuno Santos at the press conference of
the Council of Ministers, after announcing that toll rates will increase by
4.9% for drivers, 2.8% of the responsibility of the State, with the remainder, up
to 9.5% or 10.5%, to be borne by the concessionaires.
“The Government considered that a 10.5% increase in tolls
from January would be unaffordable and unbearable for Portuguese families.
Portuguese families are going through a difficult phase, which is why it would
be incomprehensible that, faced with the imminence of a 10.5% increase in
tolls, the Government would stand by”.
Pedro Nuno Santos considered the shared solution to be
“balanced and fair”.
So all in all the taxpayer will cover the rest. At the end of the day the managing companies will get their 10% increase.
