“Tonight we only had 11 incidents and none of them were significant. As for the total, we recorded 759 incidents between midnight on Friday and 8 am today, the majority of which were fallen trees, flooding and falling structures”, José Costa, from ANEPC, told Lusa, providing the most up-to-date official report.

Mainland Portugal (territory covered by ANEPC's assessment) and the Madeira archipelago have been experiencing heavy rain and wind, snowfall and rough seas since Friday due to the passage of depression Jana.

According to José Costa, the most affected regions were Greater Lisbon (141), the Setúbal Peninsula (104), the Algarve region (84), the Porto Metropolitan Area (54) and the Coimbra region (53), with the remaining occurrences distributed across other regions in smaller numbers.

“Of the 759 incidents, 273 were fallen trees, 167 road cleanings, 161 structure falls, 92 floods, 54 mass movements and 12 other incidents,” he said.

José Costa also indicated that 2,955 operatives were mobilised, with the support of 1,086 land resources.

“As for casualties, although none were serious, we had one person slightly injured on Friday in Moita due to a mass movement. On Sunday, we had one person slightly injured following a tree falling in Mação and another person slightly injured due to a tree falling on a vehicle in Torrão, in Alcácer do Sal,” he said.

Rain and wind warnings remain in place and, therefore, he added, it is expected that there will be more occurrences throughout the day.
