The problem does not lie in recruiting, as this branch has proved to be attractive to young people, but "what is happening is a question of competitiveness within the market".

One of the ongoing measures is a program that the Air Force has been working on for two years and which aims to “improve all the facilities that can be made available to the military, not only for their workplaces, but also for accommodation”.

According to the Chief of Staff, the lack of 1,400 military personnel "translates into an overload for the remaining people", since most services have to be deployed, which "implies less rest, greater turnover", and has also implications on the missions that have to be accomplished.

The staff list that will be approved by the Government “may be one of the solutions” to “address some of these deficiencies in terms of staff retention”, in the opinion of João Cartaxo Alves.
