According to Pedro Nuno Santos, secretary general of the PS, the number of advertisements for houses available for rent increased by over 50% and the Mais Habitação measures are already taking effect.
However, according to the newspaper, although the increase was real, rent prices also continued to increase and, in January of this year, the biggest increase since 1994 was recorded: 6%.
Público says it consulted the same portal as Pedro Nuno Santos to confirm the data on housing available for rent, concluding that the supply on that portal increased by 55% in Portugal in the fourth quarter of 2023.
This shouldn't be a surprise since the government allowed landlords a 6.94 increase to rent. How that is supposed to control inflation is beyond me.
