According to Marketeer, Mercadona states that it will “continue to offer a varied assortment to meet the different needs of its customers”, implementing “more understandable nutritional information on labels”, seeking to “improve the composition of products so that they are healthier and suggesting ideas and recipes with the message 'Your Balanced Basket'”.

As part of the initiative, the company is reviewing “the composition of its products, in collaboration with its specialist suppliers, to improve, whenever possible, their nutritional value”, giving as an example the chocolate oat drink from which 30% of the sweeteners were cut, and improving “the labelling to make it easier to read the nutritional values and the quantities of nutrients”.

“In 2024, Mercadona updated the labels on 500 packages”, Mercadona reveals, pointing out as its goal for this year “the improvement of more than 2,500”. All this “through three movements: standardizing the composition of the nutritional tables, making them easier to read (increasing the font size, much more than required by law, changing the background colors and restructuring the information) and including nutritional information per portion, which facilitates specific information per dose”, informs the company.
