The strategic lines of the plans, which also aim to combat discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression and sexual characteristics, were presented at the end of the Council of Ministers, in a press conference, by the Deputy Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Ana Catarina Mendes.
“This strategy has been very important over the past four years, with a reduction in the wage gap between men and women. The indicator referring to women on the boards of directors of companies listed on the stock exchange is already above the European average”, maintained Ana Catarina Mendes.
In the area of domestic violence, which continues to be "a scourge", there was an increase in support, although there is still a lot to be done in this field and in the fight against discrimination based on sex, added the Deputy Minister for Parliamentary Affairs.
According to the Government, the strategy presents “a programmatic cycle that extends to 2030, being temporally and substantively aligned with the 2030 Agenda”.
This strategy is based on three action plans: Equality between women and men (PAIMH); preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (PAVMVD); combating discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sexual characteristics (PAOIEC).
From the executive's perspective, the approval of these three plans "consolidates the progress achieved so far", as it is considered that sustainable development "is closely linked to the achievement of substantive and transformative equality".
