The awards ceremony took place in Yucatán, Mexico and it was José Avillez who was recognised in 33rd position.

"I don't really know what to say other than that it is with huge pride to be able to represent Portugal and Portuguese gastronomy, and that these distinctions belong above all to my teams and all Portuguese chefs", Avillez wrote on social media.

The top 100 closes with the second Portuguese Chef - João Oliveira, from the Michelin-star restaurant Vista, in Portimão. "A mix of emotions, but above all very proud to have entered the ranking of the best chefs", he wrote on social media.

Also on the list is Chef Hans Neuner in position 71, and although he is from Austria, he works in Portugal at the Ocean restaurant in the Algarve.
