On the Sado Line, CP now offers 52 more sitting places and 169 standing places, an increase of 52%. In exceptional situations of peak demand, it can reach 330 seats (maximum load – 5 pax/m2), 62% more than the current offer.
The trains now have three access gates, making boarding and disembarking easier, adds the Ministry of Infrastructure, in a statement. A change that should mean an improvement in punctuality rates.
Fertagus trains will run on the line between Lisbon and Setúbal every day every 20 minutes, even outside peak hours, as the mayor of the city of Sadina had already announced. “In total, 14 stations benefit from the increase in schedules, resulting from the extension of the Fertagus concession contract until March 31, 2031”, informs the statement. The change translates into a growth of 73% in vacancies offered on weekdays and 172% on weekends.
Circulation to Coina will maintain a train frequency of every ten minutes during peak hours and every 20 at other times.
“More train frequency and more available seats represent a gain in daily time. Providing a better quality of life for the population is a way of attracting and retaining them in the use of public transport”, says Miguel Pinto Luz, quoted in the note sent to newsrooms.
“On the Sado Line, increasing train capacity is particularly important, as it is used by the student population”, he adds.
