The Serra da Estrela Cheese Festival in Oliveira do Hospital takes place on Saturday and Sunday, in the centre of the city in the district of Coimbra.
Speaking to Lusa, the Mayor of Oliveira do Hospital explained that this event will occupy an area of around 20,000 square meters, which is distributed and located in the city's central square.
“It will be made up of the Cheese Tent, with six Serra da Estrela cheese producers. It will also feature producers of Dão wines, honey, dried fruits, sausages, jams, bakery products and smoked meats,” he said.
This year the guest municipality is Castro Verde, which will be present with cheese from Serpa, while from Spain will come cheeses from Galicia and León.
With five stages, where various cultural and ethnographic activities are planned, the Serra da Estrela Cheese Festival in Oliveira do Hospital will also feature an animal exhibition area.
“It is important to put citizens in contact with animals, with the Bordaleira sheep, which is part of the ecosystem for the production of Serra da Estrela cheese”.
According to the mayor, there will also be a sheep competition and, during the fair, “a large collective cheesecake” will be made, which will be sliced and distributed at the end.
“There will be surprises, with the launch of new products, some quite stimulating, and innovations in terms of local products,” he concluded.
